How to setup google maps EV integration with Ford
Setting Up Google Maps® EV Integration with Your New Ford
The future of driving is electric, and Ford is at the forefront of this electric revolution, with impressive offerings in a variety of models and styles. These EVs offer stellar performance and a commitment to sustainability, but they also come with some unique considerations like charging. Google Maps is here to help, with a suite of new features specifically designed to make EV driving seamless and stress-free.
What is Google Built-In®?
As Motortrend.com® points out, as technology advances there has been an ongoing battle between Apple and Google to offer vehicle integration systems. It’s a huge market for them, but more importantly, the benefits of the tech integration are manifold for drivers. Google has now announced a leap forward with what Android integration can offer with their new Google Built-In.. This is a new in-vehicle system that’s available on select Ford models, including the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning pickup. It seamlessly integrates Google Assistant, Maps, and Play Store into your car’s dashboard, giving you a familiar and intuitive way to control everything from navigation to music to climate.
Enabling EV Integration in Google Maps
Setting up EV integration with Google Maps is simple. It’s a very short process, and since you’re probably already familiar with Google features, this should be a breeze:
- Open the Google Maps app on your phone.
- Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Select “Settings” > “Navigation” > “Electric vehicle.”
- Enter your Ford vehicle’s VIN or select it from a list of recently connected vehicles.
- Done! Google Maps will now recognize your Mustang Mach-E or F-150 Lightning as an EV and provide you with EV-specific features.
Enhanced Features for EV Drivers
So what’s new with Google Built-in? Once you’ve enabled EV integration, you’ll unlock a feast of features designed to make your electric driving experience effortless:
- Battery level on arrival: See your estimated battery level once you reach your destination, so you can plan your charging stops accordingly.
- Smart charging station suggestions: Google Maps will intelligently recommend charging stations along your route, taking into account factors like your current battery level, traffic conditions, and even the elevation of the road (uphill driving can drain the battery faster).
- Charging time estimates: Get accurate estimates for how long it will take to charge your car at each EV charging station, so you can plan your breaks accordingly.
- Preconditioning: Optimize your car’s battery temperature before you hit the road, which improves efficiency and range. You can even set preconditioning to start automatically when you plug your car in at home.
- One-tap charging: Use Google Pay® to pay for charging right from your car’s display.
- Real-time energy consumption: See how much energy your car is using at any given moment, and get tips on how to drive more efficiently.
- Regenerative braking visualization: See how much energy you’re recovering through regenerative braking, so you have a more complete picture of how your driving affects your charge.
- Trip history and stats: Track your EV trips and see how you’re doing over a period of time in terms of energy consumption and charging habits.
