Is the Ford EcoSport Manual or Automatic?

The earliest available cars had manual transmissions, but nowadays this trends the opposite way.  Only a fraction of the vehicles on the road use a manual transmission, while the rest have an automatic transmission.  Some manufacturers are even starting to phase out manual transmissions due to their lack of popularity, much to the dismay of some drivers.  Other vehicles offer a manual transmission depending on the location, due to the cultural differences and what drivers tend to prefer.

The Ford EcoSport, Ford’s subcompact SUV, arrived in the American market in 2018.  What kind of transmission does the EcoSport offer – manual or automatic?  D’Orazio Ford has the answers.

EcoSport Around the World

The EcoSport had been around for a number of years before it hit the American market.  In fact, the subcompact SUV had actually been on streets around the world as early as 2003.  It originated in the country of Brazil, where designers based it off of the Ford Fusion and Fiesta.

In fact, it became a bestseller in Brazil, as well as Argentina, Mexico, and Venezuela.  It eventually spread to Japan, India, Russia, Thailand, and all around Europe.  Then, in 2016, the 2018 Ford EcoSport model was announced.

Ford EcoSport in America

The EcoSport was anticipated to make waves in the American market, just as it did around the rest of the globe. However, compared to other Ford models in the US, the EcoSport does not quite keep up with the rest of the lineup. Then came the closure of the Indian production plant – this has officially caused the discontinuation of the EcoSport in America.  The EcoSport will be available through mid-2022, but will disappear after that.

Manual or Automatic?

As previously stated, most American cars have automatic transmissions.  However, in Europe – and the rest of the world – many actually prefer to drive a manual vehicle.  Americans often try to eat or talk on the phone while driving, which makes driving an automatic vehicle much more convenient, while Europeans simply do not get so distracted.

The Ford EcoSport is offered with both manual and automatic options in most of the world.  However, the American-released EcoSport only offers an automatic transmission Meanwhile, in the rest of the world the EcoSport had a standard manual transmission. The automatic transmission was the available option instead.

EcoSport Features

While the EcoSport is leaving the American market in 2022, the 2021 model comes with many incredible features.  For example, Ford has prioritized safety on this vehicle, ensuring that it comes with the Ford Copilot360 technology. This includes a full standard safety suite of features, including blind spot information assistance, hill start assist, reverse sensing system, and more.  It also includes intelligent all-wheel drive.

Ford also includes many different amenities for the EcoSport in 2021. This includes the ability to change the interior ambient lighting to match the driver’s preferences. The EcoSport uses SYNC3 technology, which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as Ford+ Alexa. This is all accessible right on the EcoSport’s 8-inch LCD touchscreen.
