As Ford unveils its new 2023 truck lineup, let’s take a look at two of our workhorses: the F-650 and F-750 trucks. These medium duty trucks are the definition of ‘Built Ford Tough’, designed for power and performance, which these new models deliver in spades. Ford worked with leading upfitters to design work-ready frames that easily accommodate vocational bodies, requiring little or no modification.
The class-exclusive 7/3L V8 gas engine gives you immense gas power for a truck in this class. And the Ford-built Power Stroke ® Turbo Diesel engine is teamed up with this monster transmission: the Ford TorqShift® heavy-duty 6-speed automatic.
What does TorqShift® mean to you? It means you can take this truck wherever you need to work, and trust it to get you there and get the job done. TheTorqShift® heavy-duty 6-speed automatic has a three-plate/two-stage torque converter. It’s got strengthened gear sets and extra pinion gears to handle the demands of that V8 turbo diesel or gas engine. And the SelectShift® feature has 2 modes: Full manual control, or Progressive Range Select. PRS limits the range of gears to lock out overdrive.
Let’s talk towing: Both the new F-650 and F-750 come with Tow/Haul. When going uphill, Tow/Haul selects the gear for you, minimizing gear hunting. Downhill, it prevents upshifting and increases in speed. This reduces your reliance on brakes alone to slow down. You can get the TorqShift for available live-drive power take off provision that works with stationary and mobile modes.
Because of what these trucks are built to do everyday, alternators are a big deal on the F-650 and F-750. So with both models, you get options: from the standard 200-amp (diesley) or 210-amp (gas) and optional 240-amp (gas and diesel)…to heavy-duty alternators for jobs that require extra power, like the 240-amp/157-amp dual alternator that gives you a combined 397-amp output. And you’ve got an available CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep Package for bio-fuel capability.
D’Orazio Ford sells a lot of these trucks as fleet vehicles because of Ford’s pro-business perks, like FordPro™ where you get telematics data with GPS tracking, driver behavior feedback, and more. FordPro™ Data services give you real time access to key data so you can manage your fleet more efficiently.
Differences between the F-650 and F-750:
We think both are great trucks and D’Orazio Ford sells and services both. They’re pretty similar in a lot of ways, with one of the key differences being you get more F-650 available versions, so there are more configuration options. With the F-750, you get a bit more available power, but fewer versions. The F-750 is designed more for heavy delivery and similar applications. With the F-650, the Gross Vehicle Weight Range (GVWR) is between 20,500 and 29,000, and with the F-750, the GVWR is between 31,000 and 37,000.
