Ford F250 vs F350 which should I get?

2023 superduty

D’Orazio Ford can help you choose your new 2023 Super Duty Truck!

You know you want a truck that’s built Ford tough- after all, these Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks are the gold standard for towing large loads and getting the job done.  You just aren’t sure which one to pick.  From what we’ve seen, the new 2023 Ford F-250 and F-350 look pretty similar on the exterior, and offer the same cab, bed size and trim options.  Both trucks come in the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch Edition or Platinum trim level, and both can have a regular cab, Super Cab or Crew Cab.  Both have bed size options, either regular (6’7.5”) or long box (8’).

So how do you narrow it down and which truck do you buy?  D’Orazio Ford can help you break it down with a few key questions:

What do you need to haul?

Towing capacity is the biggest difference between the Ford F-250 and F-350.   Both trucks have impressive towing capability, but the F-350 delivers more than its little brother- and that’s a pretty big little brother. The max towing capacity for the F-250 tops out at 18,500 lbs.  Muscling past it, the absolute max towing capacity for the F-350 is a stunning 32,000 lbs.  So the F-350 can just about double the towing capacity of the F-250.  And the F-350 now has the option of dual rear tires to help with that extra tow.   As for payload, the F-250 maxes out at 4,270 lbs., while the F-350 has a maximum payload of 7,640 lbs. load capability.  So there again, the F-350 can do just about double what the F-250 can.

If you’ve got a major load to haul, we think the F-350 is worth the extra investment.  Not going quite so hard?  The F-250 should suit you just fine.

There’s no difference as far as the engine goes: Both trucks are expected to have a standard 6.8L flex-fuel gas V8 engine, with 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.   And with both, you have the option of upgrading to the 6.7 Turbo-Diesel Power Stroke V8, which gets you 450 horsepower and 935 pound-feet of torque.  And both trucks can be converted to Bi-Fuel, so they can run on gas and a secondary fuel source like CNG or propane.

Where do you want to go?

Both the Ford F-250 and F-350 have available camera and blind spot warning system to work with your trailer or when the tailgate is down.   Both have the Pro Power Onboard system to turn your truck into a 2kW generator, perfect for charging tools or powering a campsite.   And both trucks have the new XL Off-Road package and Tremor off-road version, if you really want to get away from it all.   But if you’re using your truck to haul sport equipment or camping gear, we think the F-350 is overkill.  The F-250 will get the job done and still get you a pretty impressive super-duty towing package, without all that extra weight.

How much do you want to pay?

You might think there’s a huge price difference between the Ford F-250 and F-350, but actually, not so much.  While final MSRP’s aren’t out yet, traditionally the F-250 and F-350 are within a few thousand dollars of each other, depending on trim level.
